Organisations - Best practices and setting up an Organisation

Best practices

Before you begin creating organisations, groups and adding users, think about how your organisation is structured. What groups, classes, faculties or teams are there to take into consideration? Educational organisations generally consist of several faculties or departments, each consisting of various year groups or subject classes. Outside of education, you may have various project departments consisting of project teams, task forces or groups.

Of course, each organisation is set up in its own individual way and it’s definitely not a case of one size fits all. However, here’s a helpful diagram to help you understand how we recommend you set the structure up in its simplest format.

In summary:

  • Each cohort (class/group) contains the students and a tutor
  • Each child organisation (faculty/department) contains one or more cohorts, a coordinator and system administrator
  • Your organisation contains one or more child organisations (faculty/department) and a system administrator

Here's how that set up would display in the 'Organisation' tab: 

Bear in mind that you can have as many tutors, coordinators, administrators, observers and mentors in as many levels as you like.


How do I set up my Organisation?

Step 1. Go to ‘Organisation’ in the left hand menu.

Step 2. The logo of the two buildings shows the head organisation, and you can add children to that, and further children to that. Click on an organisation to be able to edit the name, description, add a child organisation or delete the organisation.
